Contract: Big W embankment stabilization
Location: Stockton on Tees
Anchor Type: Fully threaded steel bar with extra large concrete slabs acting as bearing plates.
The road had cracked and moved towards the existing brook adjacent to the Big W near Stockton. A&J Geotechnical Services were contracted to provide support to the existing embankment. The design and build contract included the use of soil nails up to 20 metres in length through concrete blocks and rubble and on into the underlying mudstones. In order to save the clients money we used pre - cast concrete bearing plates as the sizes meant that galvanized steel plates wouid be prohibitively expensive. Due to access constraints we utilized our T46 mini drill rig to install the soil nails.
