System
A gabion structure was installed to support the existing 10mtr height slope behind a row of new build dwellings, A&J Geotechnical Services were contacted when the gabions began to bulge and the slope showed signs of distress. A ground anchor and soil nail option was adopted. Ground anchors were installed through the gabions and in to a mixture of old retaining walls, fill materials and cobbles. Where the gabions had bulged a top down construction was adopted whereby soil nails and a mesh covering were installed then excavations were carried out to remove the loose fill materials, the gabions were then re built in front of the supported slope.
Access around the site was very restricted so we used our micro drill rig for the works as this machine is very small and light but has plenty of power for drilling through the very varied strata.
